Science Explorers camp is designed to immerse campers in a wide variety of museum sciences. Utilizing unique collections, hands on tools, and scientist informed techniques, campers discover the natural world together as junior scientists. Campers will learn about botany (plants), geology (rocks and minerals), paleontology (fossils), ornithology (birds), entomology (bugs), and ecology as we explore the Laurel campus together. We will travel to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History to see one-of-a-kind specimens to deepen our learning – and our fun! Campers will enjoy thematic games, crafts and adventuresome explorations in this idyllic summer setting and by the end of the week they will feel like true science explorers!

Circle Sampler Camp: Summer in the City

Campers will have an exciting week exploring the scientific, artistic, musical, theatrical and cultural institutions around University Circle. This year’s theme, Summer in the City, will be highlighted throughout the week during this unique full-day program hosted by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Our partners at the other amazing institutions in the Circle will share their exclusive resources to enrich your child’s understanding of the world. Campers will interact with, observe, and explore nature and culture while having fun and meeting new friends. Campers are supervised at all times and are escorted to sites either on foot or via University Circle, Inc. buses. Campers must provide their own lunches. Drop off and pick up are at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

Wildlife Warriors Camp

Campers will gain insight into the wild and captive lives of Ohio animals, featuring some of the Museum’s live animal ambassadors. Campers will learn to identify native animals using clues discovered in the natural world, such as identifying tracks, bones, vocalizations, and pelts. Campers will be encouraged to think like a zoologist and discuss the needs of each animal’s habitat, both in the wild and in captivity. We will create enrichment items that the coyotes and other animals living at the Museum's Perkins Wildlife Center will receive." Participants will work in groups and individually to solve mysteries posed by the natural world such as “What animal is that?” “How do I know it’s safe?” or “How can I help to protect this animal?” This experience will fuel the love of nature for the rest of their lives and is a “can’t miss” opportunity!

Junior Medical Camp is a unique opportunity to explore the world of health and disease, conduct state-of-the-art laboratory experiments, engage in science through hands-on learning, and explore careers in the fields of science and medicine. We’ll practice basic medical-exam techniques, investigate biotechnology, explore forensic-science mysteries, perform real laboratory dissections, and experience cutting-edge technologies for visualizing human anatomy, thanks to our collaboration with Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine. Join us to gain a deeper understanding of the many facets of the field of medicine while having some summer fun with our Cleveland Museum of Natural History education team.

Campers attend a 4-day experience to design and create their own museum displays. Students will work throughout the week to build up the skills and knowledge necessary to interpret their creations. Featured are visits from the Museum’s Exhibits team, real items and displays from the Museum, and hands-on activities (like creating a cast and mold of real specimen) that will push campers to use their academic and artistic skills to bring items from the Museum’s collection to life! By the end of camp, students will have self-made displays to take home. As a culminating activity, families can visit the Camp Classroom for a celebratory ‘field trip’ to the many mini-museums crafted over the week, where students become the expert guides for the families who attend.

Meet the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s astronomers to get hands-on with rocket science. Gain an understanding of how Newton's Laws got astronauts to the Moon and apply that knowledge as you build and launch your own rockets! Campers will work together and independently while having the opportunity to build multiple rockets throughout the week. This camp is filled with engaging lessons and high-flying summer fun. The final day of camp will include an epic series of rocket launches.
