Photography Fundamentals is designed to introduce each student to an array of digital photographic techniques used in the studio, on location and in post-production aspects that include Adobe®, Lightroom® and Photoshop® fundamentals. Using digital SLR cameras, students will have an opportunity to visit and explore multiple locations throughout the greater Cleveland area over a multiple day span, while learning about photo composition and proper camera handling skills. Each student will learn how to print their own work to bring home at week’s end. *Campers are encouraged to bring their own camera, or are welcome to borrow a camera by completing a signed waiver prior to the start of camp.

In collaboration with the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA), Laurel School faculty member Catherine Butler joins teaching artists at CMA for a week of hands-on creative play. Participants will explore works of art with interactive gallery explorations that provide ways to connect campers to artists in the collection. Then, they’ll have the opportunity to be the artists by getting messy in the studio with a variety of materials, techniques and fun prompts. Mondays are spent entirely at Laurel’s Lyman Campus, followed by mornings at Laurel and daily afternoon field trips to the Cleveland Museum of Art on Tuesday through Friday.

Creative Challenge with the Cleveland Museum of Art

In collaboration with the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA), Laurel School faculty member, Catherine Butler joins teaching artists at CMA to help campers practice thinking like an artist through a variety of fun games and challenges. Campers will see the CMA collection from new perspectives with open-ended gallery activities that will encourage closer looking and critical thinking. Then they will head to the studio, where CMA will provide the resources for students to experiment, take risks and form new ideas all their own. Mondays are spent entirely at Laurel’s Lyman Campus, followed by mornings at Laurel and daily afternoon field trips to the Cleveland Museum of Art on Tuesday through Friday.
